The children at St Chad’s Catholic School in Witton Park have been absolutely loving their time in our wonderful new outdoor learning area. The space has already become a hub of creativity, teamwork and curiosity as pupils explore, investigate and learn in the fresh air.

Problem‑Solving in Action

One of the highlights of the week was watching the children tackle a brilliant problem‑solving challenge: how to turn ice into water. Working together, they explored different ideas, tested their theories and used real scientific thinking to understand changes in state. Their teamwork and determination were fantastic to see.

A Surprise Visitor: A Newt!

During their exploration, the children even discovered a newt hiding in the outdoor area! This sparked a wave of excitement and inspired an impromptu research session. Pupils found out:

  • What newts like to eat
  • Which animals eat newts
  • How newts fit into a food chain

This hands‑on learning linked beautifully with their current science topic and helped the children deepen their understanding of living things and their habitats.

Linking Learning to Faith

As part of their RE work, the children listened to the story of the Presentation of Jesus. Inspired by the narrative, they used natural materials to build their own marvellous temples, showing wonderful imagination, reflection and creativity.

A Week Full of Curiosity and Joy

From science and problem‑solving to imaginative play and faith‑filled learning, this week has shown just how powerful outdoor education can be. We are so proud of how our children at St Chad’s Catholic School in Witton Park work together, support one another and bring so much enthusiasm to everything they do.

What an amazing start to using our new outdoor area - we can’t wait to see what we discover next!
