Feast of the Ascension at St Chad’s
Yesterday, we came together as a school community to celebrate the Feast of the Ascension. This important feast, celebrated 40 days after Easter, commemorates the day Jesus ascended to be with His Father in Heaven. It is a special moment in the Church’s calendar, reminding us of faith, hope and God’s promise.

Pupils at St Chad’s Catholic Primary School in Witton Park, Bishop Auckland enjoyed a full day of exciting and meaningful activities as they celebrated the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough and learned more about his life, work and passion for the natural world.
Celebrating Earth Day in Class 1
This week, Class 1 have been celebrating Earth Day and learning all about how we can look after our beautiful world. We respectfully joined together in class worship, reflecting on our responsibility to care for God’s creation. The children then created a wonderful display, sharing their ideas about simple ways we can help protect the Earth.
Eco‑Warriors on a Mission: Saving Energy and Supporting Wildlife
The Year 5 and Year 6 class have formed an Eco‑Warriors group. Their job is to make sure no water or heat is wasted in school. Each day, they go around the building checking that lights are switched off, recycling bins are used properly, and whiteboards are turned off so no electricity is wasted. At the end of the week, they award each class either a red or green paw print to show how well they have done!
British Science Week Adventures in Class 1!
Class 1 have had a fantastic time being scientists this week as part of British Science Week. The children have been busy asking questions, exploring ideas and carrying out their own investigations.
Flipping Fantastic! Our Pancake Challenge Raises an Incredible £2,279!
On Shrove Tuesday the school council decided we would host a pancake flip to raise money for St Cuthbert's Hospice and our school in memory of Shannon Hauxwell who lived in the village and was an aunty to a friend in our school.

This week, Class 1 at St Chad’s Catholic Primary School, Witton Park have been busy exploring their senses to help them describe a setting in their writing. Inspired by the beautifully rich story Anna Hibiscus’ Song, which is set in Nigeria, the children immersed themselves in sensory learning to bring their ideas to life.

Understanding Floods and Climate Change at St. Chad’s
At St. Chad’s, we believe in preparing our pupils to understand the world around them. During the autumn term, Year 5 and Year 6 deepened their knowledge of flooding and climate change through an engaging visit from the Environment Agency.
