At St. Chad’s, we are passionate about giving pupils hands-on experiences that connect science to real-world applications. As part of our recent STEM Day, pupils worked with Northern Gas to explore the fascinating topic of energy, forces, and sustainability.
The session began with an exciting activity: creating gas to power a hydrogen-powered car. Pupils investigated how long the gas lasted while the car was in motion, gaining insight into how alternative energy sources work.
Next, they compared the effect of friction on different surfaces and discovered how this influenced the amount of gas required to keep the vehicles moving. These experiments highlighted the relationship between energy efficiency and environmental impact.
This interactive experience gave pupils a deeper understanding of renewable energy, innovation, and the importance of sustainability in today’s world. It was a fantastic opportunity to combine science, technology, and environmental awareness in a fun and engaging way.
