British Science Week in Class 1!

Class 1 have had a fantastic time being scientists this week as part of British Science Week. The children have been busy asking questions, exploring ideas and carrying out their own investigations.

Exploring How Polar Animals Survive the Cold

We started by wondering how polar animals manage to live in freezing temperatures. To investigate this, we used fur and feathers to see how we might protect ourselves from cold water. The children loved testing out their ideas and discovering which materials helped to keep the cold out.

Our Wormery Investigation

We then became interested in worm habitats, so the class decided to build a wormery. This will let us observe how worms move and eat over the next few days. The children are very excited to keep checking on it!

Can We Grow Food on the Moon?

Tomorrow, we’ll be continuing our investigations by exploring whether it might be possible to grow food on the moon. The children already have lots of ideas they are eager to test.

Design & Technology: Fruity Creations

In DT, we have been learning about where fruits come from. The children located different countries on a map of Africa and tasted a variety of fruits.

After that, they designed and made their own fruit kebabs, carefully using tools and practising safe cutting skills. Their cutting was excellent, and it was wonderful to see their confidence grow. Once they were finished, we tasted our kebabs and talked about what we might do differently next time.
